Functions of the Soul

Functions of the Soul

The soul is the producer of our thoughts. As we grow in the Word, the four functions process these thoughts into actions. The four functions are: Intellect, Will, Emotions, Affections.

There are four areas in which God in is trying to reveal Himself:

Intellect/Reasoning: This function is where we hear words and we reason with our environment or reason with God. We must learn how to reason with God.

Will/Choice: When God is illuminating His truth and we must choose it over what our past experiences are.

Affections/Emotions: The area in which we must overcome the natural senses to understand that ultimately what God has planned for us is better than what we can ask or think.

Love: the area in which the truth of God is being established and the lie is being expelled from your mind.

This deals specifically in the way that we relate to God.

Philippians 2:12– work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, [i]with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ).

Romans 12:2-And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

1 Peter 1:9-receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

3 John 1:2-Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
